The new Wendland network is here

From the start of the summer holidays on 24 June 2024, bus services in the Lüchow-Dannenberg district will run on the newly planned Wendland network. The buses will be better coordinated so that there will be fewer waiting times when changing buses, especially at the main transfer points. The Danneberg Ost, Schnega and Salzwedel railway stations will also be better connected. There are significantly fewer empty journeys on the new Wendland network. This is climate-friendly and reduces costs.

Significant changes have been made to implement the new Wendland network: Among other things, bus services in Wendland will in future consist of a system of 7 main routes and 47 secondary routes during school term time. The new timetables will be available from 19 June 2024 at https://wendlandmobil.de/verbindung-tarife/fahrplanauskunft viewable.

The branch lines are cancelled during the holidays. At weekends, the main lines are operated on Saturdays. On Sundays, only line 7000 will run between Lüchow and Uelzen. Mobility will then be provided by the Wendland OnDemand service.

OnDemand: public transport taxi instead of on-call bus

On-call bus services will be cancelled in the new Wendland network. Regular buses will be used on the main routes instead of the on-call buses. Throughout the district of Lüchow-Dannenberg, on-demand journeys with an ordered public transport taxi will also supplement the new Wendland network. OnDemand journeys have been offered in the district since the beginning of January. These can be booked via the "Wendland OnDemand" app, which is available in the app store for Android and iOS. The OnDemand service can also be ordered by telephone. The booking hotline is available from Monday to Friday from 06:00 to 17:00 on 05841 - 977 350. Further information on OnDemand transport is also available at https://wendlandmobil.de/mobilitaetsangebote/ondemand

The new network was designed by the district's transport planners as part of the "CleverMoWe" public transport model project in collaboration with the Wendland Transport Council and Verkehrsgesellschaft Nord-Ost Niedersachsen. The district council approved the operation of the new Wendland network at its meeting on 27 May 2024.

School transport

School transport will also change after the holidays. In order to reduce costs due to the current budget situation, the district council decided at the end of May to remove some of the school transport services from the new Wendland network. From 5 August 2024, instead of regular buses, only school buses that are not part of the local public transport network will run on some routes. All pupils can continue to use public transport and school bus services free of charge with the pupil and trainee ticket. School transport is also guaranteed after the holidays.

As the approval process for the new exempted school transport could only be started late, it cannot be finalised until mid-July at the earliest. The district will then inform all affected parents and schools immediately.
