Free travel for all pupils, trainees and volunteers

From the start of the 2023/2024 school year, all schoolchildren, trainees and voluntary service workers who are at home in Lüchow-Dannenberg will be able to use the buses in the region free of charge. The district council members have approved the corresponding proposal.

Against the background of the necessary transport turnaround, the district of Lüchow-Dannenberg has set itself the goal of making public transport attractive and affordable as part of its services of general interest. With regard to children and young people, the district is now going one step further and offering all schoolchildren as well as trainees and those doing voluntary service free transport in principle.

Since the young people in the upper classes have had to pay for their own school transport up to now, it is particularly important to the district administrator that families with lower incomes in particular now experience a not inconsiderable relief. "In this way, the offer of free use of public transport is not least also a contribution to educational justice and equal opportunities."says Dagmar Schulz.

"Until now, only those children and young people who were entitled to school transport were able to benefit from the free offers for afternoon use of public transport. Now this applies to all"Mareike Harlfinger-Düpow, head of the mobility and climate protection department, is delighted.

This circumstance brings about some changes in the application for the student ticket: All students who have received a still valid time card as a check card can continue to use it. For those pupils who have not yet received a ticket because they are

  • have not been able to use public transport free of charge until now,
  • change schools,
  • go into the 11th, 12th, 13th grade,
  • attend the BBS,

During a transitional phase, we will hand out cardboard cards that entitle the holder to use public transport free of charge. The cards will be issued by the schools. An application by the pupils is not necessary.

Only trainees residing in DAN who are not educated in Lüchow-Dannenberg, as well as volunteers residing in DAN, must fill in the application form on the website www.mobil-im-wendland.de However, they do not have to pay anything for the Youth Ticket either. Proof of this must be submitted to LSE GmbH.

If a student ticket is lost, a fee of 25 euros is still due. After payment of the fee, it will then be replaced.
